A Norwegian study published in the American Journal of Psychiatry showed that even small amounts of exercise are tremendously beneficial. The study followed over 33,000 adults, monitoring their exercise and symptoms of depression and anxiety for 11 years.

“We’ve known for some time that exercise has a role to play in treating symptoms of depression, but this is the first time we have been able to quantify the preventative potential of physical activity in terms of reducing future levels of depression,” said lead author Associate Professor Samuel Harvey. The researchers found that many cases of depression could have been prevented via a regular exercise program.”
